Sea Smoke in Kesennuma, Miyagi

Sea smoke is a mist that appears to rise from the surface of the sea when the water temperature is higher than the air temperature. It is one of the iconic winter scenes of Kesennuma, created as cold air from the land moves over the sea and cools the water vapor above the surface.

In Kesennuma Bay, this phenomenon can typically be seen from mid-October to late January, during the early morning hours for about an hour around sunrise, creating an ethereal, cloud-sea-like landscape.
Kesennuma KUROMORI goes about its daily work surrounded by this beautiful scenery.

※ Recommended sea smoke viewing spots are introduced on the official Kesennuma tourism website.
